A behind-the-scenes look at Terranam Wellness & self-care tips for taking better care of yourself.

BY MARIA GARRIDO - 2 MINUTE READ

Surround yourself with the healing power of flowers at Terranam Manor.

AN ANCIENT LANGUAGE

The practice of giving flowers to express our feelings towards others goes back centuries. In Ancient Egypt, flowers were often used in religious ceremonies but it is believed that today's flower giving tradition was most likely born in the Middle Ages in Turkey, where symbolism for flower giving first appeared. The practice didn't really go viral until Victorian times, where expressing emotions openly was considered taboo and tasteless. It is then that an entire language around flower giving developed, where each flower represented a different emotion and there were entire dictionaries to help people send the right message by flower type.

Think of it as the emojis of the 1800's!

THE GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING

Flowers touch us all in unique ways. They have a way of connecting us with others. A box of chocolates or a nice candle is always welcomed 😉 but the gift of flowers is more intimate. Whether it be a wreath expressing condolence or a bouquet expressing love, when we gift someone flowers we are showing that we care at a much deeper level. When we receive flowers, most of us feel a sense of happiness, delight and gratitude.

Long after the giving and receiving part is done, flowers leave a lasting impression on us. Everytime you pass that bouquet on the dining room table that you got for your birthday or the flowers your child picked for you in the park, lovingly placed in a mug on the kitchen counter, you have a hightened sense of life satisfaction. Flowers leave a lasting impression in our hearts.

BECAUSE WE CARE

At Terranam, we believe in the power of flowers.

That's why one of our favourite things to do for guests is to decorate their rooms with a vase of wild flowers. The morning before the start of our retreats, we grab a basket, some clippers and head out into our gardens and the surrounding forest to pick wild flowers. Upon arrival, each of our guests discovers their unique bouquet in their bedroom. It's our way of saying,

"This is a place of kindness and care and we want Terranam and all of the the nature that surrounds us, including the flowers, to shift, awaken, calm something inside of you".

STOP & SMELL THE GOODNESS

When you stop to appreciate the flowers in your home or at Terranam Manor, you are pausing to recognize the goodness in your life. It's an opportunity to reflect on the things that bring you joy.

SELF CARE TIP

Don't wait for that special someone to gift you a bouquet. Show yourself some love and go out into your garden, take a walk in the woods or stop by your local florist and pick a bouquet of your favourite tulips, peonies or what ever flower tickles your fancy. It's a good reminder that you don't need a special occasion to celebrate yourself.🌷
