A behind-the-scenes look at Terranam Wellness & self-care tips for taking better care of yourself.

BY MARIA GARRIDO - 2 MINUTE READ

When was the last time you experienced true joy? It turns out that pure and utter happiness is not only good for the soul, but also has benefits for our body.

THE HUNT FOR HAPPINESS

As autumn sets in and the days get shorter, I find myself in a bit of a rut. Peeling myself out of bed in the colder and darker mornings and getting the kids off to school, the dog walked and myself to work feel like insurmountable tasks. 🥱

So, I’m hacking my slumpy mood and doing simple things that bring me joy. After all, experiencing happiness should be part of a self-care routine. Each of us will be unique in the ways we find joy, but here’s a list of some of my happy habits:

A walk in the woods

Laughing with girlfriends

Singing silly songs with my partner

Participating in my theatre club

Dancing around the house by myself

I’m walking the walk so when no one else was around, I blasted music and danced for joy around Terranam Wellness Manor!

I shared this video with my Linkedin followers and have been overwhelmed with positive messages about how my uninhibited energy made people smile or brought the spark into their day. Their positive reactions warm my heart and make me realize that joy is contagious.

BODY BLISS

When we are full of joy, our entire body benefits! People who experience joy tend to lead healthier lifestyles; they are more likely to exercise, eat well and sleep better.

Joyful people also have lower levels of stress which helps regulate blood pressure and reduce risk of heart attack. They experience fewer aches and pains and tend to have stronger immune systems.

All of this combined means that experiencing frequent joy actually helps us live longer!

SELF CARE TIP

We don’t need major life events to benefit from blissful moments. When you tune into the feeling of joy, you become aware that joy can be found in the little things. So make your own list of things that make your heart sing and take some time this week to bring a happy habit into your self-care routine ❤️
